But really though, it has felt like that, hasn’t it? We started 2020 hoping the even-numbered anomalistic rotation might bless us with some fun memories, exciting opportunities, maybe even some new friends. At least I did anyway… 😂
Yeesh, was I wrong.

Yeah, you could say the major events of 2020 were pretty unexpected; not just in the US, but around the globe.
Quick comment here for the record books — This was a year of some crazy stuff. Really, there were some cool space and tech news, but for the most part y’all should just leave out the other stuff on the exam. Focus on the rocket tests, those were cool.
But fortunately, history doesn’t work like that. We don’t get to re-frame the facts. People will look back on this year with hate and loathing for awhile, but I do sincerely hope we all eventually come to learn something from it. Whether it’s realizing the depth of our love for our family and friends, or the life-altering changes we had to make (sometimes because of those same people) during the chaos that was ‘outside’.
I won’t comment too thoroughly on the controversial topics of the past year. They slammed our new’s headlines 24/7 for months on end, so I think they’ve had their time in the spotlight (some have really overstayed their welcome, if we’re honest)… But the big thing I wish people would focus on was the affect all the negativity had on people. Specifically in the US, we saw the human condition, laid bare in front of our eyes when riots, marches, police instigators, terrorists, politicians, and patriots all decided to square up in a massive game of “Guess Who(‘s country it is)?” Seriously, wtf guys…

Here’s hoping the perspectives from other countries can be heard a little louder this year. How’s the weather in Prague? Has anyone heard from the Philippians this month? Or Venezuela? Did South Africa silently take over the tech industry leaderboards? Not yet? Ok, just keeping you on your toes?
Anyway — as a somewhat sudden close — please reflect on what you have learned this year about your life and disciplines as we head into a new year. There is a lot more we have to get through before this season of chaos has run it’s course. Just being realistic here. But I’m optimistic.
I would encourage you to embody the positive growth and deny the negative arson that is all around us. Note that I’m not saying turn a blind eye: fight to make a positive impact. But also be discerning on what it is you choose to fight for. Identifying the ‘enemy’ is a little too easy these days. Ask yourself if the hill you’re choosing to take a stand on is worth dying on. Because chaos is the trouble of every generation. Don’t let it sweep you away into its confusing clutches.

So, yeah. Don’t be stupid, 2021
