The Lens

They asked me to be better. But never tried it out themselves. Simply being and living and breathing… How do you do that without a drive to be better? Am I the only one with purpose around here?

At least I can say I didn’t give up. I kept the heart alive, I didn’t shrink from the challenge. Fleeing was an option and I chose not to take it. The baggage was dropped and a new dawn arose.

Listen, I get it: you operate in cycles. Everyone is either in a storm, coming out of a storm, or floating on the stillness before a storm, right? But what if we could change that point of view…

Everyone breathes in the same aerosol fabric of creation, either remembering the lessons of yesterday, resting in the peace of the moment, or impacting the world for a better tomorrow.

See the shift in tone? Y’all are way too cynical. And yes, it’s cynicism, not realism. Grow up and be better. You owe it to your younger self: the one that wasn’t worried about bills and life’s depression.

Yes, you could go about your life stressed, bent on analyzing every stroke of the pen, listening for every wrong note of the key, squeezing the bottle dry of every last drop.

Or, you could look around every now and then. What would you feel if you paused and just looked in the camera for a brief moment? Record 60 seconds of your life and tell me what you see.

I guarantee, you’ll notice something you hadn’t thought about in a long time; a feature of your face that you were bullied for, or a reminder to pick that item up off the floor that’s in the background.

If we could learn to actually look through the viewfinder again, capture the world from every height, every angle… It’s such a simple little trick, yet it has been the most powerful anti-depressant in which I’ve ever indulged.

I apologize if this seems ranting or disjointed. Just some thoughts I’ve been working through. It’s good to talk to you again though. I missed these moments of quiet. Here’s to your health; I hope you’ve been well.

Oh, and feel free to come find me if you get lost. It’s a great big world out there after all ❤
